John McCain’s presidential campaign is importing at least some of its press strategy from the Bush White House.
The heavy-handed tactics provoked a confrontation between a local TV reporter and McCain press aide Nicole Wallace, the former White House communication director. A correspondent for a St. Louis Fox affiliate complains that someone on McCain’s staff was trying to double-check his camera placement before the interview.
“I think there was an attempt by somebody in your staff to take a look at the shot, and I have never, ever had anybody at any organization…” the reporter says in a video posted to YouTube before Wallace interrupts.

“Really? You’ve never done anything with the White House? …I was at the White House for seven years, and we looked at every shot,” Wallace explained.
The TV reporter continued to cry foul, “Not at our shots,” he said. The argument goes on for several more minutes until Brooke Buchanan, McCain’s national press secretary, jumps in.
“Do we have a problem here,” she asked. Because if — we may want to reschedule for another day.”
